30th Year of Business!

Here at the New Continental Hotel, we are gearing up for a year of celebration in 2014 as we mark 30 years of business.


Before and After – The New Continental’s Reception in the 1980’s to now. Our team is at the heart and soul of the New Continental Hotel and is integral to providing guests with a quality hotel service and being flexible to cater for individuals needs.
 

The Victorian hotel, built in 1865, was acquired by restaurateur Steve Hajiyianni in 1984. At that time the Grade II-listed building was known simply as the Continental Hotel. After complete renovation and refurbishment it was reopened and renamed the New Continental Hotel.

The restaurant is spacious while at the same time intimate with a warm and inviting ambience, furnished in a modern contemporary fashion with brushed chrome and wooden tables and seats of fuschia pink and brown.

Today, the New Continental hotel employs around 60 staff and has a total of 99 rooms with four conference/function rooms that can cater for up to 350 delegates. We also have an in-house restaurant called Steve's Brasserie, named after Steve Hajiyianni. This was part of the  £3million refurbishment between 2008 and 2010..

These two photographs are of Steve's Brasserie, which was also part of the refurbishment. Steve’s Brasserie was opened in 2010, named after Steve Hajiyianni who aquired the New Continental Hotel in 1984.

Above the photos show just some of the work we've put in to keeping the hotel fresh and up to date. We are a warm, family run business and we hope that our love and passion for hospitality that stems from our Greek Cypriot roots is felt by each and everyone one of our guests.

Wedding Fayre 2013 at the New Continental

Over the weekend we gathered together some of the region’s top wedding suppliers and put on a gorgeous Wedding Fayre at the New Continental Hotel. Brides, grooms & their families were able to come and get a true sample of our weddings at the hotel and organise the final touches to their big day.

It was our first Wedding Fayre in over 15 years and we wanted to make sure it was personal, tasteful & inspiring.

Charlie Partridge dressed our function rooms for us and Final Touch Weddings did all the chair covers for the event. They gave our function rooms that perfect wedding day finish.

Guests were given complimentary Pimms and cupcakes as they arrived and were then free to explore the hotel and see what each of our exhibitors had to offer. It was wonderful to see all our guests chatting away to the various wedding suppliers from photographers to florists, jewellers to chair covers. There was a warm, wedding-like feel to the day which was exactly what we were aiming to achieve.

Civil Ceremonies in Plymouth

Here at The New Continental, we cater to all couples - we are fully licensed to hold both weddings and civil ceremonies. It has been a pleasure to see the advancement in marriage legislation and society moving with the times, to allow for all couples to be united by marriage. 

As can be seen in our previous wedding related posts, the room set ups are always beautiful; here are some examples of our recent civil ceremony room decorations....

Our superintendent registrar conducts all the ceremonies and you may contact them on 01752 278331.

The standard room hire charge for a civil ceremony is £250 - this includes a either pedestal of flowers or a balloon arch, matching your preferred colour scheme.

Weddings Galore!

As you can gather from these beautiful photos, the wedding set ups here at New Continental are second to none. Our fabulous events organisers leave no pin unturned and every last detail is meticulously planned and analysed - in order to provide the perfect day for the happy couple and their guests.

The timeless and classy room decoration, as seen above, was put together with the assistance of The Cover Cupboard, who dressed the chairs and of course with the help of our dedicated team of organisers - who never fail to dot all the i's and cross all the t's!

The beautifully composed photography as seen above was taken by Fiona Walsh and the venue dressing was arranged by Charlie Partridge; with the chair covers supplied by Final Touch Weddings for this particular set up.

We will be hosting a Wedding Fayre here at The New Continental on Sunday 4^th August 2013. It's the perfect opportunity to visit one of Plymouth’s top wedding venues and meet an inspiring variety of wedding suppliers.

Our banqueting rooms and civil ceremony room will all be set up for weddings so that you can get a true sample of the full experience here with us.

Joining us on the day will be some of the South West’s top Wedding Suppliers in the industry. Our wide variety of exclusively hand picked suppliers will cater to every budget, whether it’s large or small. The fayre is going to be warm and personal to each bride to be, where not only will we give you lots of inspiration we will answer your questions and help you fulfill all your desires for your big day.

We will be working closely with Sam Cox bridal wear on the day. Sam Cox has a beautiful boutique located on the Barbican, Plymouth and is blessed with an elegant and stylish interior, private dressing facilities and a wide range of bridalwear accessories for you to choose from. 

Sam will be bringing dresses along on the day and there will be an area provided for brides to be to try on. 

There will be Pimms on arrival and we can even book your lunch for after the fayre just up the road at Morgan's if you’d like to make a day of it.  We hope that those of you who are looking into having a wedding reception in Plymouth will be blown away by all that we have to offer, here at The New Continental - we think you will be!
